Mavic M40 prototypes

World Champion Thor Hushovd will be using the new Mavic M40 prototypes for Paris-Roubaix. The wheel is a 40mm tall carbon tubular rim with what appears to be 24 steel spokes but is the first Mavic road wheel to jump into the wide rim bandwagon that Hed started a few years ago. The wheels has already been raced by a few riders, notably Philippe Gilbert winning the Strade Bianche on them...

Dan,

HED can hardly be credited with started the wide-wheel trend. Zipp won Roubaix and Flanders last year on the 303. Two years ago, they place the 202 4th at Roubaix. Nothing that HED makes is able to withstand actual riding coniditions in the real world.

HED makes wheels for triathletes. Zipp makes wheels for both Tri and Road. You are right however that Mavic is a follower in this case. My only disagreement is who it is they are following....
