Picture of the day

It's a nice Tour de France!

I usually prefer the Giro as far as Grand Tours are concerned. More exciting competition, nice scenery... The Tour de France has been a bit boring these last few years but so far this year, the Tour has been nice... Sure it's now shaping up to end like we anticipated with a win by Contador in front of Andy Schleck (Andy's in front but couldn't follow Alberto today and will lose minutes in the final TT), we knew Lance would finish far behind by being dropped in the mountains but not that much in a single stage. There has been some on-the-bike-drama this time (not an off-the-bike-soap-opera like last year) with Lance going down the drain, Evans losing the yellow jersey in a hard way, Frank Schleck crashing out... I'm a bit deceived to see Basso and Kreuziger outclassed by Alberto and Andy, by Oscar Freire being so invisible and by HTC's dangerous end of stages riding continuing. I'm not that surprised but many were saying Astana didn't have a strong team to support Contador but they have been looking very strong so far, much stronger than Radio Shack's has-beens... Saxo Bank are strong as always, even without Frank.

But, after the above picture, what I like about this Tour is that we were not 100% sure about the race's outcome before it started as we were last year. The GC battle is now a duel for the Pyrénées and I expect Alberto to prevail but it could still be an exciting last week. Hopefully we'll get more nice surprises.

I have to say that I have not been following the TdF this year even though all of my friends keep saying how good it has been. That was until yesterday when Contador started the charge to make up time. Not a bad stage finish. I watched stage 13 this morning and thought that Vino looked pretty good by taking the jump and staying away to take the win away from the sprinters.
