New Mavic wheels

The Cannondale-Vredestein boys, among others, were sporting yet another version of Mavic wheels this weekend in Val Di Sole. Reports are that they use carbon spokes, maybe those special edition 1100gr wheels I mentionned a few weeks ago. The silver rims must be the tubular specific while the black rims as seen on Canada's impressive Catherine Pendrel's bike are probably the clincher/UST versions. Interesting... so is the gold colored Lefty with a very minimal boot and what looks like the 2009 one-piece spindle/bottom end.

Edit: More news from Bike Radar... The new rims are now machined not only between spokes but on the sides too. The hub/spoke connection is not the same as the R-Sys road wheels and they are suggesting the spokes are not hollow to help them deal with impacts mountain wheels can't avoid. But it looks like the rims will make it into production for 2009 but not the spokes, 2009 Crossmax SLR spotted at the E-MTB Blog. Unless the SLR gets a new, higher end brother...

I can't confirm or deny the rumors... BUT the Scalpels were said to have come in at around 9kg! Roel did a good job to come back, while Jakob said he didn't drink enough but gave it everything he had...
