Next Scalpel raced

Roel Paulissen has been spotted racing a prototype of Cannondale's next generation full suspension race bike, marking the end of the Scalpel era or just an evolution of the world's most successful FS XC bike. The front end is still made of alloy but the production version is expected to be carbon. The rear end loses the pivots at the dropouts and the seatstays, looking much cleaner now, appear to be flexing with their slightly flattened shape like the famous chainstays... The new chainstays now have a bridge between the rear tire and the BB, combined with less pivots, the new swinglink, the bike should be light and lateraly very stiff, exactly what cross-country racers need. The shock also moves forward, right under the top tube so it should eat less mud than it used to. Thanks to Andrea 'il guslo' for the nice pictures.

The new bike is similar to the venerable Scalpel but use a different shock layout

The rear shock moves under the top tube

The frog link is replaced by a prototype looking swinglink

Gone are the pivots at the dropouts, saving a few precious grams

Roel was also using this carbon stem and a weird looking lockout lever
