Chrome Children in Montreal, tonight

Catch beat conductor Madlib, wheels of steel wizard Peanut Butter Wolf, crowd pleaser J Rocc, old schoolist Percee P and guests at the Stones Throw Records Chrome Children Tour Montreal stop. 25$, 7PM at Le National (see here for other dates and cities). There is also a Chrome Children CD/DVD compilation, marking the label's 10th anniversary.

I had the chance to see them live in NYC a few years ago for Jaylib's Champion Sound release party and I had mixed feelings about the show. I was impressed how Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf mixed from two crates of 45's, how J Rocc made the most out of making us wait for the bigger names but the man I was there to see was the crazy Madlib. I love how he works and I'm impressed at the number of good beats he can come up with but he's not exactly a rapper, even less a singer. He's a genius behind the tables, on the mixer and on whatever old sound producing machine he works on. That night, he spent most of the time that he was on stage with the mic. Thank you Lib for finishing your set with some of your real skills.

Monkey Suite is a deep, jazzy track from none other than Madvillain taken from the Chrome Children compilation. It might also be on their second album coming out in 2007. Here is the nice and smokey video:
